East Polk County Hit by Alleged Traveling Criminals

Possible Father/Son Operation Cons People in Fly by Night Fashion, SEGNO, February 2, 2011 - Two people in Segno have been allegedly conned by an aggregate operation claiming to repair driveways and do gravel work.  According to one Segno resident, the con men stopped by his house offering to repair his driveway.  The resident agreed verbally to accept their services in what was supposed to have been a guaranteed good deal.  The men began to patch his entire driveway and stopped just short of where the driveway really needed the work.  They claimed that they ran out of gravel and needed more.  They then informed the resident that they needed to get some more gravel, and that the work thus far would cost him $5,600.  The resident wrote the men a check in the amount of $5,600 for their services and told them that he couldn't afford anymore of their "good deal".  They took the check and cashed it and wasn't heard from again.  Another Segno resident was conned out of $900 by the same group.  One of the suspects is believed to be on probation in Smith County for the same type of crooked dealings.

Special thank you:  Criminal Investigator, Archie Chapman with the Polk County DA's Office
