Accident on Crest of Onalaska Causeway, ONALASKA, February 18, 2008 - According to DPS Trooper Sam Lattner, shortly after 2:30 pm on February 18, 2008, a black 2007 PT Cruiser driven by Kayla M. Clouds, 19, of Huntsville slammed a Red 2006 Dodge pickup driven by Michael D. Land, 55, of Crocket, from behind holding up traffic briefly. Within 30 minutes the vehicles were moved off the bridge and into the nearby park on the west side of the bridge. An ambulance from Americare Ambulance Services was on the scene as EMS personnel was treating Clouds who seemed dazed and confused. Onalaska Police Chief, Ron Gilbert was on the scene as well as 2 Polk County Sheriff's Deputies, and DPS Trooper, Sam Lattner. The Dodge truck was still driveable, but the PT Cruiser had to be towed by a truck from George White & Sons Wrecker Service. Clouds' vehicle deployed both upper and lower air bags. Both Clouds and Land had insurance. Traffic was flowing again by 3:15pm. Clouds was issued a citation for failure to control speed.
