Livingston coaches settled the young Lions down and with the help of a few defensive adjustments Bellville would not score for the rest of the first half.
The Livingston offense struggled to get on track and had to overcome penalties and mistakes to drive the football deep into Bellville territory as the first half came to a close quarterback Blake Burman tried to hit Casssity Land in the end zone but the defender made a great play to intercept the pass and the Lions went to the locker room trailing by 14.
A fired up bunch of Lions took the field after halftime and promptly forced a Bellville fumble deep in their own end of the field.
Quarterback Burman picked up a bobbled snap and was hit hard as he struggled to gain extra yardage the ball popped free but KeKe Johnson snagged it out of mid air and darted 10 yards for the touchdown to cut the Bellville lead in half with 11:13 left to play in the 3rd quarter.
The two teams stood toe to toe for the remainder of the quarter with neither team giving an inch.
A fourth quarter Lion drive was halted after a big KeKe Johnson run was nullified on a holding call forcing the Lions to give the ball back to Bellville and a tired Lion defense finally gave in at the 7:30 mark of the fourth quarter Bellville punched it in for the score and a 21-7 lead.
With the Lions trying to move quickly in for the score a mishandled handoff was dropped and a Bellville linebacker scooped up the fumble and rambled 35 yards for the score sealing the fate of the Livingston Lions home opener.
The Lion offense executed a nice late drive culminated by a Burman to Wilson 27 yard TD pass with 1:50 to go the PAT was no good and the scoring ended with Bellville on top 28-13.
We saw a great effort from a very young Lion team in the jungle tonight this team will correct it's mistakes and only get better.
The Lions host Caney Creek next Friday night in The Jungle at 7:30pm.
