Michael Shukan Awarded Polk Countian of the Year, LIVINGSTON, February 1, 2013 - Dr. Michael Shukan was awarded the Polk Countian of the Year award for the year 2012 at the annual Livingston/Polk County Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet. Shukan received the award amidst a standing ovation from the audience. The banquet was held at Livingston Junior High School cafeteria on Thursday, January 31, 2013. After presentation of the award, Shukan gave an emotional speech pointing out the winners of the award in previous years saying that he was proud and humbled to be among them. "When I graduated from high school, my dad grabbed me and my brother and told us to treat other people the way that we would want to be treated", Shukan stated, he continued quoting his dad, "...during the short time that you're on this earth, whether your a success or not, depends on how man friends you're able to make". "When I look around this room, I'm so thankful to have so many friends" , he said. "...I'm thankful to have this award and will treasure it for the rest of my life". Other awards for community service included: Susie Gearing, Blair McDonald, Ernie Provasek, Russsell "Bud" Upton, Lew Vail, and Dr. and Mrs. William Watson.
