Polk Countian of the Year Award Presented Posthumously to the Late Jay V. Snook, LIVINGSTON, January 27, 2012 - The Seventy-Sixth Annual Livingston/Polk County Awards Banquet was held at the Livingston Junior High School Thursday evening (January 26, 2012). The event kicked off with a beef and chicken fajita dinner complete with all the trimmings including desserts. Business owners, business leaders, elected officials and plethora of local dignitaries crowded the annual bash to enjoy the comradery and witness the award presentations. 2011 Chamber Chairperson, Jessica Jones Lattner opened up the awards portion of the annual event by welcoming all attendees. An invocation was given by Dr. Don Willis who was followed by Chamber Executive Director, Sydney Murphy. Educator of the year, community service awards, natural resources award and other notes of recognition were duly handed out. Sydney Murphy and H.L. Striedel presented the final and biggest award to the family of the late Jay V. Snook. During the presentation speech, delivered by Murphy, she stated; "Jay V. Snook wore many hats in Polk County, husband, father, grandfather, were the ones he valued the most, however, he was also involved numerous community projects and activities and served in various positions..." Murphy said, "...however, Jay V's roots and his life's passion always brought him back to agriculture...". Jay V. Snook's wife, Patricia and other family members came to the front to receive the annual award to a robust standing ovation. At the conclusion of the ceremony, 2011 Chairperson Jessica Jones Lattner, handed the reins to incoming 2012 Chamber Chairperson, David Lamonte. The entire event lasted for about an hour and a half.
