Burks Voted in as Next Tax Assessor Collector for Polk County, LIVINGSTON, August 1, 2012 - Shortly after 9 pm on Tuesday July 31, 2012, Leslie Burks of Corrigan received the news that she was hoping for. Burks received the news that she had won the Republican runoff election between herself and Todd Miller. Friends and family were on hand as hugs, kisses and tears of joy flowed. Burks' face had a sudden look of relief that only moments earlier reflected anxiety. Earlier in the evening Burks learned that she won the early votes by a slim 71 votes. By the end of the evening when all boxes had been counted, the total showed that the gap had widened considerably with Burks winning by a margin of 2,001 votes to Miller's 1,737 votes. Burks took the high road and was thankful to her opponent for a clean and good race.
