14 Year Old Breaks Into Gokey's Grocery, Caught and Held by Management, GOODRICH, January 18, 2011 - At approximately 11:40 pm on January 17, 2011, an alarm sounded at Bobby Gokey's residence in Goodrich. The alarm indicated that Gokey's Grocery (located of FM-1988 West) had possibly been broken into. Gokey and Patty Oakley (store manager) both were at the store within a few minutes. When they arrived they noticed that the front glass door had been shattered and observed that there was someone inside. Oakley entered the premises armed with a Glock pistol, Bobby was armed with a rifle and fired a warning shot into the air signaling to the burglar that they meant business. Gokey and Oakley caught the burglar red handed. The burglar (a 14 year old white male) was ordered at gunpoint to get down onto the floor. Oakley and Gokey held the suspect at gunpoint until Sergeant William Jerry and Deputies Dustin Lowrey and Troy Binford arrived. The young suspect was apprehended and detained. A preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect used a concrete block that was in the grass around the side of the building to throw into the glass door, shattering it gain entry. Fortunately nobody was injured. The youth now finds himself in a world of trouble with the law and his parents. The scene was cleared by 12:30 am.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office were on the scene within a few minutes of the burglary being reported.
