Big Sandy Hosts Fundraiser For Senior Class Trip To Hawaii, BIG SANDY, February 9, 2008 - Big Sandy High School held a Valentine's Banquet on Saturday from 5 pm - 7 pm to raise money needed for the 2008 senior class trip to Hawaii. According to Mrs. Donna Lenox who is a high shcool math teacher at Big Sandy, the total cost for the trip is around $37,000 and after tonight's banquet (which brought in over $1,000), they have reached the $20,000 mark.
The Seniors served the parents and guests at the banquet while several teachers and other students ran the kitchen in the back. Among those were Mrs. Stephanie Hendrix who teaches pre-kindergarten and is an elementary school counselor, Mrs. Brenda Caine, Secretary at the jr. high and parent volunteer who has a child whose a senior at Big Sandy, and Mrs. Lenox. According to Lenox, around 50 percent of the 38 seniors are planning on making the trip.
The banquet menu included taco soup, dumplings, gumbo, cornbread, tossed salad, tea, and an wide array of deserts including cheese cake, cookies, and key lime pie. One hundred and twenty plus parents and guests attended the banquet.
The trip is scheduled to last for 7 days and will take place in late May or early June.
