Accident on Highway 1988 Sends Houston Woman to Hospital, LIVINGSTON, March 9, 2008 - At approximately 6:15 pm, on March 9, 2008, an accident on highway 1988 at 3126 occurred that sent one Houston woman to the hospital.  Ashley Delira, 20, of Houston, pulled out onto 1988 from 3126 directly into the path of Ed Riley, 64, of Coldspring who was west bound on 1988.  Delira was driving a gray 2008 Honda Pilot and Riley was in a brown 2002 Ford F-250.  Riley attempted to dodge Delira but could not avoid her and a glancing head-on collision occurred.  Delira's vehicle was spun around and rolled into the a ditch and Riley's vehicle rolled off the road to the left and crashed through a barbed wire fence.  DPS Trooper Glen Goodwin was dispatched to the scene of the accident as well as Polk County Sheriff Deputy Billy Duke, and a surplus of volunteer firemen from Livingston Volunteer Fire Department.  An ambulance from Americare Ambulance Service arrived on the scene and transported Delira to Livingston Memorial Hospital.  Riley and his wife, Pat, stated that they were physically okay.  Deputy Duke directed traffic as Trooper Goodwin investigated the accident.  A rollback wrecker from Harwood Bros. Wrecker Service hauled away Delira's vehicle and a wrecker service from Coldspring was dispatched to haul away Riley's vehicle.  After Riley's vehicle was towed away, Trooper Goodwin notified dispatch that the damaged barbed wire fence should be repaired so that no cattle gets loose on the road.
