Rollover Accident Takes Life of Local Man, Alcohol Suspected, LIVINGSTON, December 29, 2012 - At approximately 4:30 am on December 29, 2012, a white 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe was west-bound on US-190 West. The driver is alleged to have been traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control and swerved left into the opposite lane of travel. The vehicle struck a guard rail and veered right and rolled two times. The vehicle came to rest upright on the west-bound side of 190. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Corporal Lee Rogers and Deputy Robert Green (both with the Sheriff's Office) and Troopers Kevin Burman and Ramey Bass of the Texas Highway Patrol. The driver, Cody Lee Thinnes, 22, of Livingston, was deceased. His passenger, 21 year old Justin McDonald, sustained non-life threatening injuries. McDonald was transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital by ambulance. All traffic on 190 was blocked and rerouted during investigation and cleanup. There was a heavy smell of alcohol, an empty whiskey bottle, and other evidence that suggests intoxication. Justice of the Peace, Larry Whitworth performed an inquest at the scene. A first-call car from Cochran Funeral Home transported Thinnes from the scene. A rollback Wrecker from Harwood Wrecker Service recovered the vehicle and it will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston. The scene was cleared by 8 am.
