One Hospitalized in Accident, LIVINGSTON, December 27, 2009 - At approximately 2:07 pm on December 27, 2009, a black, later model Nissan Maxima driven by Debra Witchet, of Houston was south-bound on US-59 in Livingston when she swerved to avoid a red, older model Volkswagen Jetta driven by Rachel Johnson, 20, of Houston. Witchet cut her wheels left in the evasive maneuver, but failed to maintain control of her vehicle as it slid through the muddy, grassy median all the way over to the north-bound side of 59 into oncoming traffic where she collided with a 2008 Red Dodge Truck driven by Stephen R. Alaniz, 45, of Manvel, Texas. The collision occurred just a short distance from Baskin's Department Store in Livingston. Witchet's vehicle came to rest in the left lane of 59 North facing north while Alaniz's vehicle remained facing north where the collision occurred. Meanwhile, Rahcel Johnson (the red Volkswagen) pulled over on the shoulder of the south-bound side of 59. Officers Kevin Ward, Dallas Early, and Chad Ward were dispatched to the scene alone with Americare Ambulance Service. Witchet's passenger (her husband) was transported by ambulance to Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries, everyone else was okay. According to Johnson, her Volkswagen was not running properly which caused it to apparently slow down and make unsafe moves in traffic causing Witchet to swerve to avoid her. A rollback wrecker from LakeView Wrecker Service recovered both vehicles. This accident remains under investigation and there could be citation(s) pending for Johnson. All three parties had insurance. The scene was cleared by 3:05 pm.
