Pedestrian Critical After Being Hit by Car, ONALASKA, December 21, 2011 - At approximately 10:16 on December 20, 2011, Taneea Marie San Miguel, 31, of Highlands, was walking on US-190 West near Northshore RV.  San Miguel was walking west bound on the inside unprotected lane facing traffic.  San Miguel was struck by a maroon 2003 Mercury Marquis driven by  Elizabeth Victoria Vaughn, 65, of Point Blank.  The front driver's side of the vehicle struck the left side of San Miguel's body and knocked her approximately 50 feet away from the impact.  Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department and Officer Michael Mares with the Onalaska Police Department.  San Miguel was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to a nearby landing zone where she was picked up and flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston by Helicopter.  San Miguel is reportedly in critical condition with both legs both arms broken.  Additionally, she reportedly broke both ankles, has multiple broken ribs, left eye socket and nose.  At time of press she remains in Hermann Hospital in critical but stable condition and is undergoing surgery.  Elizabeth Vaughn's vehicle was recovered by George White & Sons Wrecker Service and is being stored in Onalaska.
