Car Accident Sends Livingston City Councilman to Hospital, LIVINGSTON, December 15, 2013 - Shortly before 10 am on December 15, 2013, a black 2008 Toyota Avalon driven Elgin Davis, 69, of Livingston was sitting at a stop sign on Mimosa Street at North Houston. Davis was waiting for his chance to pull onto North Houston when an older model blue GMC pickup driven by Freddie Lee Bigham, 54, of Leggett, was north-bound on Houston and attempted a left turn at Mimosa (where Davis was waiting). As Bigham went into his turn, he was going into diabetic shock and lost control of his vehicle. Bigham's pickup broadsided Davis knocking Davis off the road and into the grass. Bigham came to rest a short distance away on Mimosa Street. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit and Officers Scott Paske and Sergeant Robbie Bogany (both with Livingston Police Department). Davis was trapped in his vehicle as firemen used the jaws-of-life to gain access to him. Davis was loaded onto an ambulance and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Bigham was also transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital. Traffic on Mimosa and North Houston was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. No citations were issued. A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered Bigham's vehicle and it will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston, while Davis' vehicle was recovered by Fawbush Wrecker Service and will be stored in Goodrich.
