An 18 wheeler hauling 40,000 lbs of raw chicken crashed in the south-bound lane of US-59 north of Seven Oaks.
18 Wheeler Hauling Raw Chicken Crashes, Trailer Holds Together, MOSCOW, December 9, 2016 - At approximately 2:30 am on December 9, 2016, an 18 wheeler driven by Leroy Phelps, 61, of Judsonia, Arkansas, was south-bound on US-59.  According to Phelps, he swerved to avoid a deer.  Phelps' rig left the pavement to the right, he over corrected left, then over corrected right and crashed through a guardrail.  The impact caused the trailer portion of his rig to turn over.  The trailer was hauling 40,000 lbs. of raw chicken.  The trailer held together.  Corporal Ramey Bass and Sergeant Sam Lattner with the Texas Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene.  Phelps was not injured.  An environmental team was dispatched to clean up spilled oil and diesel from the rig's engine.  Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup.  A heavy duty wrecker from Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan was summoned to clean up the mess.
