Names Released in Double Fatality Accident, SODA, December 8, 2020 - The names of the two victims from this morning's double fatality accident have been released. Michael Tobin, 55, of Onalaska was east-bound on US-190 East (in the left lane) in a white 2009 Chevy Tahoe when a west-bound silver 2013 Ford Taurus, driven by Christopher Hinson, 37, of Livingston pulled directly into Tobin's lane. Hinson was trying to pass vehicles in front of him by going around them in the oncoming lane. Tobin's and Hinson's vehicle collided in a glancing head on collision. Both men were killed on impact. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.

According to witnesses, the driver of this Ford Taurus was west-bound on 190 East and tried to pass traffic by driving in the east-bound lanes of traffic and causing a head on collision.
Head On Collision Leaves 2 Deceased, SODA, December 8, 2020 - At approximately 6:45 am on December 8, 2020 the driver of a silver Ford Taurus was west-bound on US-190 East. According to witnesses, the driver of the Taurus decided to pass traffic in front of him by pulling into the east-bound lanes (opposite lanes of travel) and passing all the cars in front of him. Sadly, he had a glancing head on collision with the driver of a east-bound white Chevy Suburban. The collision caused the Chevy to leave the pavement to the right, while the Ford left the pavement to the right on the opposite side of the highway. Both drivers were killed on impact (their names are being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives). Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Ashlee White, Donny Akers, and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Justice of the Peace Darrell Longino will perform inquests on both victims. Both victims were transported from the scene by Cochran's Funeral Home in Livingston. The Chevy was recovered by Dan's Towing out of Livingston, and the Ford was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be held at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
