18 Wheeler Strikes 2 Vehicles, Rolls Down Hill, SPRING CREEK, December 08, 2016 - At approximately 11:45 am on December 8, 2016, an 18 wheeler hauling pallets constructed of 10 x 10s was west-bound on US-190 West a few miles south of Onalaska. The driver, Nathaniel Hall, 28, of Livingston, apparently came over a hill too fast. Hall stated that his brakes failed as his rig slammed a white Nissan Nissan Frontier driven by Thomas Gilbert, 25, of Livingston. Hall then veered right, over corrected to the left, and struck a red Kia Sedona driven by Lisa Droddy, 40, of Trinity (both west-bound in front of Hall). Hall's rig then continued to the left, off the pavement, and down an embankment, and struck a tree. The impact caused Hall's load (10x10 pallets) to slide forward and rip the top off of the cab of Hall's rig. Hall had been knocked to the floor of the rig and was clear of the sliding pallets that tore the top off of his rig. Allegiance and Americare Ambulance Services were dispatched to the scene along with the Onalaska and Livingston Volunteer Fire Departments. Additionally, Corporal Ramey Bass and Darwon Evans with the Texas Highway Patrol were dispatched to the scene. Hall was trapped in the cab of his rig (with pallets trapping him inside his rig). Volunteer firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to clear Hall's cab and allow him to stand up and climb out of his rig. Amazingly, Hall only sustained bumps and bruises. Thomas Gilbert and Lisa Droddy were physically okay. Hall was loaded into an ambulance and transported to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital for precautionary reasons. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. The accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Hall's rig was recovered by a heavy duty wrecker, while Gilbert's vehicle was recovered by a rollback wrecker from George White & Son's Wrecker Service and will be stored in Onalaska. Droddy's vehicle was driven from the scene.
