Volunteer Firemen from Livingston work to remove 29 year old Angel Nava, of Mission from his 1996 Chevy pickup.
Head On Collision Takes Life of Young Mother, HOLIDAY LAKE ESTATES, December 3, 2012 - At approximately 5:40 am on December 3, 2012, a gray 2005 Pontiac G6 driven by Kristy Nettles, 28, of Holiday Lake Estates, was west bound on FM-2665 just a little over a mile west of her subdivision when she was slammed head on by a blue 1996 Chevy pickup driven by Angel Nava, 29, of Mission. Nava was east-bound on 2665 when he entered a curve on the wet pavement. Nava was traveling over 65 MPH in the 55 MPH zone and crossed the center line. Nava's vehicle slammed into Nettles' vehicle head on. Kristy Nettles was killed on impact. The vehicles were fused together and came to rest on the north side of the pavement in the grass. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Holiday Lake Estates VFD, Deputies David Ramsey, Robrt Green, Corporal Billy Duke, Corporal Terri Mayer, and Troopers David Flowers, Donny Akers, and Sergeant Nita Bowen (all with the Texas Highway Patrol). Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to extract Nava from his pickup. Nava was loaded onto an ambulance and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with major injuries. Nava was later trasnported to Houston and at time of press, remains in critical condition. Kristy Nettles was transported from the scene by a first-call car from Cochran Funeral Home. All traffic on 2665 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Trooper Flowers, Nava is facing citations for speeding and failure to maintain a single lane of traffic. The severity of the collision made recovery difficult as it took nearly an hour just to get the fused vehicles separated. Both vehicles were recovered by a rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. The scene was cleared in about 4 hours.
Editor's Note: To avoid any confusion or false rumors, the fatality victim in this accident (Kristy Nettles) is not related to well known Deputy, Mike Nettles.
