Trooper Joe Cole with the Texas Highway Patrol speaks with Mike McDonald of Conroe. McDonald received 3 citations.
18 Wheeler and SUV Collide on FM-2665, GOODRICH, December 2, 2010 - At approximately 6:30 am on December 2, 2010, Mike McDonald, 31, of Conroe pulled off of Woodsy Hollow Road and onto FM-2665 (west-bound) in his navy blue 1989 Ford Bronco.  Just a couple of seconds after pulling out he failed to notice an 18 wheeler logging truck coming toward him in the east-bound lane.  McDonald was also in the east-bound lane and in a split second noticed the oncoming rig and swirved right to avoid the 18 wheeler which was skidding its tires from braking.  McDonald's vehicle struck the front driver's side bumper of the rig with a glancing blow sending McDonald skidding off the road and into the grass.  The logging truck was driven by Terry Kent Pate, 56, of Livingston.  Pate's rig came to a halt in the west bound lane.  DPS Troopers Joe Cole and Ramey Bass were dispatched to the scene along with Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.  Fortunately, nobody was injured in the accident but McDonald's vehicle appeared to be totaled.  Traffic was partially blocked during invesgation and cleanup.  McDonald was cited for driving on the wrong side of the roadway, driving with an invalid license, and no insurance.  A rollback wrecker from Ken's Towing recovered McDonald's vehicle.  Pat's rig was still driveable.  The scene was cleared by 7:45 am.
McDonald's 1989 Ford Bronco struck the logging truck with a glancing blow to the rig's front bumper.
Skid marks show where the logging truck was braking before impact.
The collision pushed the front bumper into the tire.
Terry Pate of Livingston watches as a wrecker pulls the bumper out from the tire making the rig driveable.
McDonald's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing.
