First responders work to free an entrapped passenger after the car (Honda Accord), driven by 17 year old Derrick Simmons, of Livingston, rolled 5 times.
Driver Rolls Vehicle 5 Times, LIVINGSTON, November 25, 2020 - At approximately 6:55 pm on November 25, 2020, a black 2020 Chevy Malibu, driven by Jessica Copeland, 41, of Livingston, was west-bound on US-190 East in the left lane (the lane by the shoulder). According to Copeland, the driver of late model blue Honda Accord (driven by Derrick Simmons, 17, of Livingston), passed her on the shoulder and then cut in front of her so close that Simmons clipped Copeland's vehicle. This caused Simmons to lose control. Simmons' vehicle left the pavement to the right and rolled five times in the grass. His vehicle came to rest upright. Copeland's vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the east-bound side of 190. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, and Troopers Colton McQuilkin and Ashlee White with the Texas Highway Patrol. Copeland was physically okay. Simmons had two passengers in his car. One was trapped and appeared to have serious injuries. Volunteer Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to get the door off of Simmons' car and safely remove the trapped passenger. The passenger was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital where a PHi Air Medical Helicopter landed and transported him to Conroe Regional Hospital. Simmons and the other passenger sustained minor injuries. Traffic on 190 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Simmons was cited for no driver's license. The rest of the accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. Simmons' vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston. Copeland's vehicle was driven from the scene.
