This white 1996 Nissan Maxima struck a pedestrian and then came to rest on the right side of the west-bound lanes on US-190 in Onalaska.
Intoxicated 79 Year Old Pedestrian Struck by Car, ONALASKA, November 20, 2010 - According to Onalaska PD, at approximately 9:35 pm on November 19, 2010, William Salter, 79, was crossing US-190 in Onalaska from the parking lot of Miss Jean's Barbecue and was struck by a west-bound white 1996 Nissan Maxima driven by Christopher Arnold, 36, of Daisetta. Salter's head impacted the windshield breaking it and knocking Salter into the pavement where he came to rest in the middle of the road. Arnold's vehicle left the road to the right and came to rest in the grass in front of First National Bank of Onalaska. Officers from the Onalaska PD were dispatched to the scene including Officer Jacob Chapman, Americare Ambulance Service, and the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department. Salter was treated at the scene and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital by Ambulance where he was flown by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital in Houston with serious head injuries and other possible injuries. According to Officer Chapman, Salter was intoxicated (allegedly drunk) when the accident occurred. Driver Christopher Arnold was placed under arrest for driving without a license and booked into Polk County Jail. The scene was cleared by 10:40 pm.
