Elderly Lady Killed in Accident in Livingston, LIVINGSTON, November 17, 2008 - According to witnesses, at approximately 4:12 pm on November 17, 2008, a tan 2003 Ford Taurus driven by an Elderly lady whose name is being withheld at this time, attempted to cross Business 59 from 146 (near First Baptist Church), and pulled directly in front of an oncoming large petroleum transport truck that was driven by Gary W. Thompson 46, of Diboll. Thompson was northbound on Business 59 when the car pulled directly in front of him. The truck (owned by Hughes Petroleum) slammed broadsided into the driver's side of the sedan crushing one side of the car. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene in addition to Livingston Police Officer Chad Ward, Sergeant Leon Middleton, Lieutenant Matt Parish, DPS Troopers Kevin Burman, and Brent Murray, and Polk County Sheriff Ken Hammack with Deputies Thomas Toomey and Terri Mayer. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit helped remove the lady from her car. She was transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital where she died a short time later. Both parties had insurance. The car was towed away from the scene by a rollback wrecker from Harwood Wrecker Service while the Petroleum truck was towed by a heavy duty wrecker from Riley Towing out of Corrigan.
