38 year old Michael James Rainer, of Livingston, was in this electric wheel chair and was struck by a Jeep Wrangler on 146 near FM-1988.
Vehicle Strikes Wheel Chair, LIVINGSTON, November 13, 2015 - At approximately 6:05 pm on November 12, 2015, an electric wheel chair driven by Michael James Rainer, 38, of Livingston, attempted to cross US-146 just north of FM-1988 (in front of R&D Feed Store).  Rainer attempted to cross 146 from the parking lot of R&D to the north-bound shoulder of 146.  As he was almost to the center line he was struck by a Jeep Wrangler driven by Ryan Murray McCauley, 30, of Livingston.  McCauley was south-bound and apparently didn't see the wheel chair.  Witnesses moved Rainer to the south-bound shoulder of 146.  Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputy Cody Hardy and Corporal Adam Norris with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Zach Lenderman with the Texas Highway Patrol.  Rainer was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries.  McCauley was physically okay.  Traffic on 146 was not blocked during investigation and cleanup.  McCauley was cited for driving with a suspended driver's license.  Rainer may also be facing a citation(s).  The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Lenderman.
