Polk County Deputy Involved in Accident, ANGELINA COUNTY, November 7, 2022 - At approximately 5:20 pm on November 7, 2022, Polk County Sheriff's Deputy, Randy Burns, was south-bound on US-59 (about 2 miles north of Diboll). Burns' patrol unit was suddenly struck by a white sedan. The white sedan was in the north-bound lanes when the driver left the pavement to the left, entered the center median, then rolled into the south-bound lanes and struck Burns' patrol unit. Burns' unit sustained a broken windshield and other damage to the body of the vehicle, but didn't appear to be totaled. The car came to rest upside down on the pavement. Burns was transported by ambulance to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Sheriff Byron Lyons and other Deputies from Polk County went to the scene. The accident was investigated by Angelina County State Troopers.
