Car Has Head On Collision with 18 Wheeler, Alcohol Suspected, CORRIGAN, October 30. 2016 - At approximately 10:30 am on October 30, 2016, an 18 wheeler driven by Russell Allen Clinard, 46, of Warren, was south-bound on FM-287 (about 5 miles east of Corrigan). Clinard suddenly slammed on his brakes as a white 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, driven by Derrick Dywayne White, 41, of Corrigan had crossed the center line and slammed into the 18 wheeler head on. White's vehicle came to rest on the south-bound side of the road in the grass. According to a witness (car behind white's vehicle) White was severely weaving and crossed the center line multiple times before the collision. Allegience Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, Corporal Jacob Chapman with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Troopers Nick Hatton, Bill Corley, Shirley McNally, and Lee Lyons with the Texas Highway Patrol. White was trapped in his mangled vehicle. Firemen used the Jaws-of-Life to cut White's vehicle open, remove him, and get him into an ambulance. White was transported to CHI St. Luke's Lufkin with serious injuries. Clinard was not injured. All traffic on 287 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Alcohol is suspected in this accident as a smell of alcohol was coming from White's vehicle (toxicology report is pending). White's vehicle was recovered by a roll back wrecker from Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan. The 18 wheeler was recovered by a heavy-duty wrecker from A-1 Wrecker Service out of Woodville.
