Trooper Ramey Bass listens to James Rasmussen's story.
18 Wheeler Clips Back of School Bus, CORRIGAN, October 29, 2010 - At approximately 3:30 pm on October 28, 2010, Vance Vickers, 35, of Corrigan, and his son were stopped legally on US-59 North about 2 miles south of the Corrigan city limits. Vickers was in the right lane of the north-bound side when an orange 2004 Freightliner driven by James K. Rasmussen, 41, of Conroe, was also north-bound and coming up directly behind the Corrigan/Camden ISD school bus. Rasmussen swerved to the left trying to miss the bus. The tractor portion of the 18 wheeler didn't hit the bus, but the corner of the trailer did catch the back corner of the bus. Rasmussen pulled his rig over on the right side of the road onto the shoulder directly in front of the bus. DPS Troopers Ramey Bass and Darwon Evans were dispatched to the scene. Fortunately nobody was hurt in the accident and both vehicles were drivable. Rasmussen was issued a citation for failure to control speed. Both parties had insurance. The scene was cleared by 5 pm.
The back of the bus sustained moderate damage.
The inset picture shows where the trailer caught the bus. Yellow paint visible on corner.
