Pickup vs 18 Wheeler, 1 Driver Flown, CORRIGAN, October 27, 2023 - At approximately 1:25 pm on October 27, 2023, an 18 wheeler driven by Joseph Gage Lund, 25, of Fort Worth, was north-bound on US-59 in the Corrigan City Limits, when the driver of a south-bound white GMC pickup veered over the center line and nearly struck Lund's 18 wheeler head on near Plant Road. Instead, the driver of the GMC (John Woodrow Simons, 31, of Lufkin) clipped the front of the trailer portion of the 18 wheeler (driver's side) and scraped down the side totaling his pickup and sustaining serious injuries. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department and Officers with the Corrigan Police Department. Corrigan PD was assisted by Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Simons was flown by medical helicopter from the scene to Conroe, while his female passenger, Autumn Diana Thompson, 38, of Huntington, was driven from the scene by ambulance. Lund was physically okay. All traffic on 59 was blocked during investigation, flight operations, and cleanup. This accident remains under investigation by the Corrigan Police Department.

25 year old Joseph Gage Lund, of Fort Worth, was driving this 18 wheeler north-bound on US-59 in Corrigan when a south-bound pickup crossed the center line, and clipped the trailer portion (narrowly missing a head on collision).
31 year old John Woodrow Simons, of Lufkin, was drivning this GMC Pickup when he crossed the center line.
After striking the front of the trailer portion, Simons' pickup continued down the side of the 18 wheeler totaling his pickup.
