3 Vehicle Accident, 1 Hospitalized, CORRIGAN, October 20, 2018 - At approximately 9:30 pm on October 20, 2018, a red 2005 Toyota Tundra, driven by Rodriguez Cruz, 38, of Lufkin, was south-bound on US-59 north of Corrigan in the vicinity of Piney Creek. Cruz allegedly made an unsafe lane change when he suddenly cut left. A car in the next lane, a silver 2005 Pontiac Vibe, driven by Jessica Hunt, 31, of Kentucky, didn't have time to avoid a collision and slammed into Cruz's truck from behind. The impact caused Hunt to lose control as her vehicle turned over. Another vehicle, a dark blue 2015 Dodge Charger, driven by Calvin Wolf, 80, of Seabrook, swerved to avoid Hunt's vehicle. Wolf lost control of his vehicle as it left the pavement to the right, turned over and slid grazing several large trees before coming to rest upside down in the grass. Cruz's vehicle came to rest in the center median, while Hunt's vehicle came to rest upside down on the right shoulder. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, Corrigan Police Department, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Donny Akers and John Allen with the Texas Highway Patrol. Hunt was transported by ambulance to CHI Lufkin Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Cruz and Wolf were physically okay. Traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was reduced to a single lane and was completely blocked when wreckers were recovering the three vehicles. Cruz was cited for unsafe lane change and no driver's license. Cruz's vehicle was recovered by Clifton Chevrolet, while Wolf's and Hunt's vehicles were recovered by Riley Wrecker Service (both wrecker services out of Corrigan).

A third vehicle, this 2015 Dodge Charger, driven by 80 year old Calvin Wolf, of Seabrook, swerved to avoid Hunt's vehicle. Wolf lost control of his vehicle, left the pavement to the right and rolled (striking several trees in the process).
