Car Slams Into Tree, SCHWAB CITY, October 12, 2008 - A single vehicle accident in the vicinity of SchwabCity sends elderly Goodrich couple to the hospital. Shortly before 3 pm on October 12, 2008, a gray 1999 Cadillac DeVille driven by Bobby Gene White, 78, of Goodrich was west-bound on 943 approximately 4 miles from Highway 146 when his car hit a bump and he lost control. The vehicle left the road to the right and rolled through the weeds for around 75 feet before it slammed into a tree. White stated that he did not try to correct the car once it left the road for fear of rolling the vehicle. Lieutenant Randy Bridges and Deputy Glen Edwards, both with the Polk County Sheriff's Office, were the first two responders on the scene. DPS Troopers Chris Stanbery and David Morris were also dispatched to the scene. Both the driver's side and passenger's side airbags of the vehicle deployed. Bobby White and his wife Mary Ybarbo White, also 78, were transported to LivingstonMemorialHospital by Americare Ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. The west-bound lane of 943 was blocked as the accident was being investigated and cleared. No citations were issued and White did have insurance. A rollback wrecker from Ken's towing arrived to tow the vehicle from the scene. The accident was cleared and traffic fully flowing by about 3:45 pm. The vehicle is being stored at Harrison's Body Shop in downtown Livingston.
