2 Vehicle Accident with Entrapment, SWARTWOUT, October 2, 2025 - At approximately 6:15 pm on October 2, 2025, a white 2014 Nissan Maxima, driven by Carolyn Cox Ashcraft, 77, of Livingston, was south-bound on FM-3126 (about 2 miles north of the State Park entrance). Ashcraft attempted a left turn onto Longhorn Drive when at that very moment, the driver of a white Ford F-350 (behind her) attempted to pass (just as Ashcraft was going into her turn). The driver of the pickup, Jared Scott Darby, 38, of Livingston, ended up broadsiding Ashcraft on her driver's side door. The impact knocked Ashcraft across a driveway and into a ditch. Darby also went into a ditch. Ashcraft was entrapped with jammed doors. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with The Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputy Dylan Dickerson with The Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Trooper Damien Zarate with The Texas Highway Patrol. Volunteer Firemen cut the door off of Ashcraft's vehicle. Ashcraft came out under her own power, but had a cut arm. She was treated at the scene and then released. Darby was physically okay. Darby is likely facing a citation for passing while unsafe. Ashcraft's vehicle was recovered by Kwik Tow out of Livingston, while Darby's vehicle was recovered by Country Boy Towing out of Livingston.
