Tanker Rollover Kills 1, Causes Major Chemical Spill, BIG SANDY, September 25, 2008 - At approximately 5:05 am on September 25, 2008, a red 2000 Peterbilt pulling a tanker with gasoline was west-bound on FM-943 and approached a curve to the left. The vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed for the curve and lost control and went off the road to the right at FM-1276 and rolled several times. DPS Trooper Sam Lattner was dispatched to the scene. The driver whose name is being withheld pending notification of relatives was ejected and killed. Justice of the Peace Precinct 4, Steven McEntyre pronounced the driver dead at the scene at 5:17 am. During the rollover accident the tank ruptured and thousands of gallons of gasoline were spilled. Polk County Emergency Management Coordinator, Kenneth Hambrick was dispatched to the scene. A hazardous material clean up crew from Milstead Inc. arrived clean up the spill. The truck was with Nolan Transport out of Vidor, Texas enroute to Huntsville.
