Two Hospitalized in Accident, SCHWAB CITY, September 23, 2012 - Shortly before 8 pm on September 22, 2012, a white 1999 Buick Century driven by Stephen Paul Weirich, 54, of Livingston, was north-bound on US-146. Weirich attempted to make a left turn onto FM-2665, but failed to yield to an oncoming north-bound 2003 Chevy Cavalier driven by Laura Brister, 19, of Livingston. The front end of Brister's vehicle slammed at an angle into the front end of Weirich's vehicle. Weirich's vehicle came to rest in the south-bound lane while Brister's vehicle came to rest on the south-bound shoulder a few feet away. Both vehicle airbags deployed. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Sergeant Christian Schanmier and Deputy Byron Dunaway with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Troopers Ramey Bass, Chris Cain, Corporal Sam Lattner and Sergeant Nita Bowen. Laura Brister's passenger appeared to have sustained worse injuries than Laura herself. Both were treated by personnel from Americare and Transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Stephen Weirich was physically okay. Traffic was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Trooper Bass, Weirich was cited for failure to yield right-of-way at an intersection. Brister's vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston while Weirich's vehcile was recovered by Fawbush Bodh Shop and will be stored in Goodrich. The scene was cleared in about 45 minutes.
