Student Hits MiniVan, Life Flighted to Houston, LIVINGSTON, September 21, 2010 - Just minutes after 11 am on September 21, 2010, Karl Shank, 55, of Livingston was east-bound on East Church (190 East at Campbellwood Street) in a white 2003 Chevy Astro minivan when his vehicle was struck by a west-bound pedestrian, 17 year old Charles Adams of Livingston and student of Livingston High School. Adams struck the passenger's front side of Shank's vehicle. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along Officer Chad Ward of the Livingston Police Department. EMS personnel treated Charles Adams at the scene and transported him to Livingston Memorial Hospital where a Life Flight Helicopter flew him to Hermann Hospital in Houston with incapacitating injuries. According to Officer Ward, Karl Shank was traveling safely in his lane between 40 and 45 miles per hour when the freak accident happened. Ward stated that Adams accidentally slipped striking the moving vehicle. One lane of traffic was blocked during investigation. Shank's vehicle was drivable and didn't need to be towed. Shank did have insurance and no citations were issued.
