Sleepy Driver Crosses Center Line, GOODRICH, September 20, 2018 - At approximately 5:10 am on September 20, 2018, a white 2016 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup, driven by Victor Matthews, 51, of Livingston, was west-bound on FM-1988 East. Matthews' pickup was suddenly grazed by an east-bound gray 2014 GMC pickup driven by David Rosas, 21, of Goodrich. Rosas was east-bound and allegedly fell asleep at the wheel. Rosas' pickup crossed the center line and nearly collided head on with Matthews. The trucks grazed. Rosas' pickup spun around and came to rest on the west-bound shoulder. Matthews' pickup left the pavement to the left and impacted some large trees. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene, along with Sergeant Adam Norris with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Neither driver sustained life threatening injuries. Matthews was transported by private vehicle to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital while Rosas was transported by ambulance. Traffic was blocked during vehicle recovery. Matthews' vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. Rosas' vehicle was recovered by LakeView Wrecker and will be stored in Livingston.
