Ronald Allgayer (right) could be charged with DWI.
Accident in Front in Front of TRA, Alcohol Suspected, GOODRICH, September 10, 2008 - At 9:52 pm driver Arnold E. Lance, 60, of Savanah, Missouri, and his wife, sat at an access road in a 1999 red Ford F-350 duly truck facing east off of FM-1988 in front of the Trinity River Authority near Lake Livingston Dam.  The Lances are visitors to Texas and had a 35 ft. 5th wheel travel trailer attached to their truck.  Their plans for the evening were changed when a tan 1997 Toyota Camry driven by Ronald Allgayer, 53, of Shepherd, was east-bound on 1988 and went off the road clipping the side of the Lance's truck then pulling away only to curve back into their travel trailer.  The impact of the collision spun Allgayer's vehicle around as it came to rest facing east next to the Lance's travel trailer.  The Lance's truck sustained heavy damage to the front suspension, the rear axel (broken), and the universal join fell out.  One of the travel trailer's rear wheels sustained damage as it's leaf springs were busted and laying on the ground beneath the trailer.  Allgayer's Camry was totaled as the front end was smashed.  Both airbags in Allgayer's vehicle deployed.  DPS Trooper Brent Henry was dispatched to the scene.  Also at the scene was an Ambulance from Americare Ambulance Service and Sergeant Rob Thomas and Deputy Jim Bowie, both with the Polk County Sheriff's Office.  Allgayer, who admitted to having some alcohol before driving, was transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital by Americare.  The Lance's were physically fine and didn't need the services of an ambulance.  Allgayer was issued a citation for failure to control speed and pending tests at the hospital, could be cited for driving while intoxicated.  The Lance's unusual circumstances (full size truck with 5th wheel travel trailer attached and both immobile) called for special towing services and a heavy duty large wrecker service was called.  Allgayer's vehicle was towed by Smith Towing and will be stored in Shepherd.
