Driver Slams Into Back of School Bus, NEW WILLARD, September 5, 2023 - Shortly before 8 am on September 5, 2023, the driver of a tan 2006 Toyota Camry was north-bound on US-59. The driver was apparently distracted and failed to notice a stopped school bus in front of him and slammed into the back of the school bus (Legget ISD). The driver, Ignacio Flores, 31, of Houston, sustained major leg injuries. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Heavy Rescue Unit, Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, and Sergeant Gary Wright with the Texas Highway Patrol. None of the kids were injured. Flores was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. One lane of traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Flores is facing a citation for failure to control speed. Flores' vehicle was totaled. Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan recovered Flores' vehicle. The school bus was driven from the scene.
