Pickup Slams Into 18 Wheeler on FM-2610, ACE, August 4, 2009 - At approximately 9:07 pm on September 3, 2009, Walter Kirton, 64, of Ace was attempting to back his Peterbilt 18 wheeler into his driveway and settle down for the evening. The back of Kirton's trailer was sitting in the west-bound lane of FM-2610 when it was slammed by a red 1999 Ford Ranger driven by Elton Plaisance, 76, also of Ace. Plaisance was west-bound on 2610 when the right front side of his pickup collided with the right rear corner of Kirton's trailer. Americare Ambulance Service and the South Polk County Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to the scene along with Polk County Sheriff's Deputies Darren Crow, Keith Franklin and DPS Trooper Brent Henry. Plaisance was carefully removed from his vehicle by personnel from Americare and loaded onto an Ambulance and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The west-bound lane of traffic was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Both parties had insurance. Walter Kirton was issued a citation for being stopped or standing in a roadway of traffic. A rollback wrecker from Fawbush Wrecker Service in Livingston recovered Plaisance's vehicle and it will be stored at Fawbush in Livingston. The scene was cleared shortly before 11 pm.

Both of Plaisance's airbags deployed.
Walter Kirtan was transporting Bromine (a highly toxic liquid).
Plaisance's vehicle was recovered by a rollback wrecker from Fawbush Wrecker Service.
