Chassity McCandless' stolen Pontiac G5 sits Totaled just off the pavement of US-59 South in Goodrich.
Stolen Vehicle Involved in Glancing Head On Collision, GOODRICH, September 1, 2012 - Late Friday Night on August 31, 2012, Chassity McCandless, 24, of Livingston, had laid down in her house. When she got up later she apparently realized that she had left her purse on the porch when she came in earlier. When she stepped outside she found her purse (which contained her car keys) was gone, along with her car (red Pontiac G5). A short time later, her car was driving north-bound on US-59 in Goodrich in the south-bound lanes. The driver of her car had a glancing head on collision with a green Saturn Sedan driven by 18 year old Elijah Murdick of Katy. Murdick's vehicle slid sideways coming to rest on the right side of the road (south-bound side of 59) while McCandless' stolen vehicle came to rest on the opposite side of the pavement in the grass. The driver of McCandless' vehicle fled the scene. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputy Byron Dunaway with the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Trooper Chad Seamans with the Texas Highway Patrol. Murdick sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Livingston Memorial Hospital. Murdick's vehicle was recovered by Big Jim Harwood and will be stored at 101 Harwood Drive in Livingston. McCandless' vehicle was recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. The accident and the circumstances of Chassity McCandless' stolen vehicle remain under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
The driver of McCandless' vehicle fled the scene.
Elijah Murdick's Saturn sedan came to rest in the right lane (partially on the shoulder) of the south-bound side of 59.
