Name Released From RV / Pedestrian Fatality, SODA, August 21, 2019 - The name of the pedestrian that was struck by an RV and died a short time later has been released. Rudy Renee Williams, 32, of Galveston, passed away from injuries shortly after arriving at CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital. Williams was reportedly standing in the 7137 block of US-190 East during the night trying to troubleshoot his vehicle's possible brake problems when he was struck by a large RV. Williams was rushed to CHI by ambulance and passed shortly after his arrival. Justice of the Peace, Justice of the Peace, Darrell Longino performed an inquest.

Pedestrian Struck by RV Dies From Injuries, SODA, August 21, 2019 - At approximately 12:40 am on August 21, 2019, a driver (name being withheld pending notification of relatives) was east-bound on US-190 East. The driver allegedly stopped the vehicle on the right shoulder (7137 block of 190 East) out of concern for brake problems. He walked to the center of the four lane road and had his girlfriend do a U-turn to the opposite shoulder while he observed the vehicle for problems. While standing in the middle of the road, the man was struck by a west-bound RV, driven by Homero Esperaza, 58, of Houston. Esperaza pulled his RV to the right shoulder. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Sergeant Javier Segura, and Deputies Nichole McLean, Kade Burman, and Corporal Austin McCracken with the Polk County Sheriff's Office. Trooper Michael Whatley (from Liberty County) was driving through and stopped to assist. Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol was dispatched to investigate. The driver was rushed to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. All traffic on 190 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Esperaza's RV was driven from the scene. This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol. We'll post the name of the victim when his name is released.
