DPS Troopers Darwon Evans and Glen Goodwin Investigate.
Single Vehicle Roll Over on Notorious Area of 59 in Goodrich, GOODRICH, August 21, 2008 - At approximately 3 pm on August 21, 2008, a 2003 Ford truck driven by Michael Wells, 33, of Livingston was south-bound on 59 near 1988 when his vehicle slid and into the median and rolled. The truck landed upright and the airbag did not deploy. Livingston Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene and utilized the jaws-of-life to extract Wells from his truck. The roof of the truck was crushed but amazingly Wells' head missed the crush when his head protruded from the vehicle. The truck rolled and soft mud saved Wells from sustaining serious head injuries. DPS Troopers Glen Goodwin and Darwon Evans were dispatched to the scene. Also at the scene were Polk County Sheriff's Deputies, Lieutenant Andy Lowrie, Mark Dubose, Vance Berry and later Chief Deputy Byron Lyons, and Captain John Sanders. One Lane of traffic was blocked on each side of 59 while the accident was being cleared and investigated. Wells was removed from his vehicle and loaded onto an Americare Ambulance and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Wells had his seat-belt fastened and had insurance. A wrecker from Harwood Wrecker Service recovered Wells' vehicle and the scene was cleared and traffic flowing shortly after 4 pm.
