Lunchtime Accident, SUV Crunches Small Car, Livingston, August 19, 2013 - At approximately 12:45 pm on August 19, 2013, a blue 2005 Dodge Neon driven by Jason William Gillespie, 35, of Livingston, was north-bound on FM-350 North. Gillespie was waiting to make a left turn onto Pine Valley Drive when he was slammed from behind by white 2013 Ford Edge driven by Macy Lee Murphy, 20, of Livingston. Murphy was north-bound behind Gillespie and apparently failed to notice that Gillespie had stopped and was waiting to make a left turn. The impact pushed both vehicles off the pavement to the left and into the weeds. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Deputy Byron Lyons and Deputy Troy Binford (both with the Polk County Sheriff's Office), and Troopers Kevin Burman and Darwon Evans with the Texas Highway Patrol. Gillespie crawled from the wreckage on his own and refused medical treatment. Murphy was transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital for precautionary measures. The south-bound lane of 350 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Trooper Burman, Macy Murphy was cited for failure to control speed. Both vehicles were recovered by Ken's Towing and will be stored at Harrison Body Shop in Livingston. The scene was cleared in less than an hour.
Jason Gillespie got his bell rung and couldn't remember what happened. Gillespie refused medical treatment.
Investigating Officer, Trooper Kevin Burman (right), crawled into what was left of Gillespie's vehicle to investigate.
The front end of Macy Murphy's 2013 Ford Edge sustained heavy damage.
Both vehicles were recovered by Ken's Towing.
Houdini assisted Trooper Evans with paper work.
