Preston Jones' Vermeer hay baler ignited and burned.
Local Fireman Summons His Own Department, LIVINGSTON, August 17, 2010 - Local fireman Preston Jones had to summon his own department Saturday afternoon for help with his burning hay baler. Jones was baling hay with his Vermeer Accu Bale XL-555 hay baler. Jones noticed that his baler was smoking and within seconds fire broke out. Jones then summoned the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department who showed up with manpower and equipment for fighting a fire. Additionally, Sergeant Christian Schanmier with the Polk County Sheriff's Office was dispatched. The fire was extinguished, but not before his baler was toast. It was determined that the fire was caused by a bearing that went bad, got hot, and ignited. Jones did have insurance on his baler.
