Pickup Has Head On With 18 Wheeler, 1 Deceased, CORRIGAN, August 7, 2023 - Shortly before 7 am on August 7, 2023, a driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel on US-59 in Corrigan and drifted into the oncoming lanes causing a head on Collision. A white 2017 Chevy pickup, driven by Caden Barrios, 18, of Cushing, was south-bound on US-59 in Corrigan when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel. Barrios' vehicle drifted into the oncoming north-bound lanes of traffic and slammed head on into an 18 wheeler driven by Dennis Lambert, 59, of Houston. Both vehicles came to rest in the right lane of the north-bound side. Lambert's trailer a giant roll (of something) that rolled off of the 18 wheeler trailer, landed on the sidewalk (busting the sidewalk), and rolled over a chain link fence into a residential back yard. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, and Officers with Corrigan Police Department, including Corporal Jason Porter, Officer Bobby Goynes, and Chief Darrell Gibson. Barrios was transported by ambulance to CHI Lufkin Hospital with undisclosed injuries. Lambert was physically okay. Sadly, Barrios' passenger, younger brother (16 years old), was killed on impact. Justice of the Peace, Jamie Richardson filed an inquest at the scene. A first call car from Cochran Funeral Home transported the victim from the scene. Traffic on the north-bound side of 59 was rerouted around the accident by opening up one lane of the south-bound side of 59. Both vehicles were recovered by Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan. This accident remains under investigation by the Corrigan Police Department.

Corporal Jason Porter, with Corrigan Police Department is the primary investigator of this accident.

Both vehicles were recovered by Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan.
