Major Accident, 1 Child Flown, GOODRICH, July 28, 2024 - At approximately 6:55 pm on July 28, 2024, a black 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by Edwin Lopez, 17, of Longview, was north-bound on US-59 about a mile south of the Goodrich overpass. Lopez was suddenly slammed from behind by a gray 2014 Ford Explorer driven by Jonathan Sandoval, 33, of Houston. The impact sent both vehicles off the pavement to the right as both vehicles came to rest in the weeds. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department, a Deputy from the Polk County Sheriff's Office and Corporal Ramey Bass with the Texas Highway Patrol. Lopez had a female passenger who was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries while Sandoval had a 10 year old passenger (boy) who was transported to First Baptist Church of Goodrich parking lot where an Air Life Medical helicopter landed and transported him to Houston. One lane of traffic was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Sandoval was cited for failure to control speed while Lopez was cited for no driver's license. The vehicles were recovered by Pop's Wrecker Service and Kwik Tow (both out of Livingston).

The other vehicle was a 2014 Ford Explorer driven by 33 year old Johnathan Sandoval, of Houston. Sandoval was cited for failure to control speed.
A female passenger on Lopez's vehicle was transported by ambulance to CHI Livingston Memorial Hospital.
A 10 year old male passenger in Sandoval's vehicle was flown to Houston.
