Rollover Accident, Life Flight Summoned, BIG SANDY, July 16, 2009 - According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at approximately 10:04 am on July 16, 2009, a black 2004 Jeep Cherokee driven by Dennis Ray Spikes, 59, of Burkeville, Texas was east-bound on US-190 when, according to Spikes, he sneezed twice and blacked out. Spikes' vehicle left the road to the right and rolled two times, crashed through a sign, and came to rest in the front yard of a local business. DPS Trooper Sam Lattner was dispatched to the scene along with an ambulance from Americare Ambulance Service. Debris from the wreck was scattered all over the front yard of Hickory Hollow (local business). Spikes was loaded onto an ambluance and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and was life flighted to Hermann Hospital in Houston a short time later. Spikes did have insurance and was issued no citations. A rollback wrecker from Harwood Wrecker Service recovered Spikes' vehicle and it will be stored at Harwood in Livingston.
