Deputy Mike Nettles with the Polk County Sheriff's Office looks over the mess in Leggett on 59 South and FM-942.
Driver Totals Vehicle, Arrested for Felony Warrant, LEGGETT, July 15, 2013 - At approximately 5:15 pm on July 15, 2013, a blue Huyndai Elantra driven by Amanda Lea Kennedy, 32, of Corrigan, was south-bound on US-59. Kennedy's vehicle (for some unknown reason) left the road to the right and slammed into an 18 wheeler that was legally parked on the shoulder (the driver of the rig was Trevor Forbes, 40, of Memphis, TN). Kennedy's vehicle bounced off of the 18 wheeler and slammed into the back of a gray 2011 Dodge Dakota driven by Meredeth Slater, 44, of Leggett. Kennedy's vehicle came to rest on its driver's side in the middle of the south-bound lanes while Slater pulled into a parking lot. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with Deputies Mike Nettles, Rey Davalos, and Terry Valka (all with the Polk County Sheriff's Office) and Troopers Allen Stanton and Sergeant Nita Bowen (both with the Texas Highway Patrol). Kennedy was treated at the scene and transported to Livingston Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Everyone else was physically okay. Traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. As it turns out, Amanda Kennedy had a felony warrant out for her arrest for DWI with a child on board. Kennedy will be paying a visit to Polk County Jail upon her release from the hospital. According to Trooper Stanton, Kennedy was cited for failure to maintain a single lane of traffic. Kennedy's vehicle was recovered by Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan, while Slater's vehicle was recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan.
