Motorcycle / Car Accident, Life Flight Summoned, GOODRICH, July 12, 2009 - According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, at 6:10 pm on July 12, 2009, a silver 2008 Chevy Cobalt driven by Bradley D. Cook, 21, of Cleveland, was east-bound on FM-1988 in Goodrich when a car in front of him was waiting to make a left turn onto Gettysburg Drive. Cook slowed down to a stop behind the car in front of him when an east-bound blue 2006 Honda motorcycle driven by Donny L. Campbell, 52, of Shepherd, struck Cook from behind. DPS Trooper Chris Stanbery was dispatched to the scene along with Polk County Sheriff's Deputy Craig Taylor, Americare Ambulance Service, and Goodrich Volunteer Fire Department. Campbell sustained serious head injuries in the collision. Life Flight was summoned and landed on the new overpass bridge in Goodrich that crosses over US-59. Campbell was flown to Hermann Hospital in Houston. The east-bound lane of 1988 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. Cook was issued a citation for expired vehicle registration and Campbell will be issued a citation for failure to control speed and possibly faces a citation for no driver's license. Campbell's motorcycle was recovered by a friend and Cook's vehicle only received scuff marks on the rear bumper and was drivable. The scene was cleared and traffic fully flowing shortly after 7 pm.
The Chevy Cobalt only sustained minor cosmetic damage (scuff marks on bumper).
The 2006 Honda only sustained minor damage.
Donny Campbell of Shephered received serious head injuries.
