Wrong Way Driver Rolls Vehicle, LAURELIA, July 3, 2021 - Shortly before 5 pm on July 3, 2021, Officer Terry Valka with the Corrigan Police Department spotted a red 2009 Chevy Aveo south-bound on US-59 in the north-bound lanes of traffic.  Officer Valka attempted to catch up with the car when the driver suddenly U-turned and began heading back north (in the north-bound lanes).  The driver then crossed over to the south-bound lanes of traffic and began heading back south.  For some strange reason, the driver suddenly made a hard left into the soggy center median and rolled is car about six times.  Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, and Troopers Donny Akers, Johnny Wilkerson, and Cotye Lowrie with the Texas Highway Patrol.  The driver, Mulue B. Mezgeb, 21, of Eritrea (that's an Eastern African country), sustained serious injuries including a possible broken shoulder.  Mezgeb was transported by Ambulance to Lufkin Memorial Hospital.  Pending toxicology reports, Mezgeb could be charged with driving while intoxicated.  Mezgeb's vehicle was recovered by Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan.  This accident remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol.
