North-Bound Driver Loses Control, Rolls Into South-Bound Lanes, Alcohol Suspected, MOSCOW, July 3, 2013 - At approximately 8:26 pm on July 3, 2013, a white 2001 Mitsubishi Montero driven by Monita Bryant, 32, of Lufkin, was north-bound on US-59. According to multiple witnesses, Bryant was driving very erratically. Witnesses said that she was swerving all over the road, speeding up, slowing down, and driving up behind other vehicles very fast. Bryant came up behind a vehicle too fast and nearly struck the vehicle. She swerved right, left the road, then over corrected to the left, crossed over the north-bound lanes of traffic and began to slide sideways into the grassy median where she began to roll. One witness stated that she rolled about 4 times. Her vehicle rolled across the south-bound lanes of traffic and came to rest on the passenger's side facing south on the south-bound shoulder of 59. Americare Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Corrigan Volunteer Fire Department, and Trooper Donny Akers with theTexas Highway Patrol. Bryant and her 7 year old, and 16 year old female passengers were treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to Lufkin Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. One lane of traffic on the south-bound side of 59 was blocked during investigation and cleanup. According to Trooper Akers, Monita Bryant admitted to drinking prior to her driving. Additionally, she was driving with a suspended license. Pending blood analysis, Bryant may be facing felony DWI (due to the age of her passengers). She will also be cited for driving with a suspended license. A rollback wrecker from Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan recovered Bryant's vehicle and it will be stored in Corrigan.
