18 Wheelers Collide in North Polk County, CORRIGAN, July 2, 2013 - Shortly before 1 am on July 2, 2013, an 18 wheeler was parked on the right hand side of the north-bound lanes of US-59 about a half mile north of Goat Hill Road. Another 18 wheeler that was north-bound allegedly lost control of his rig and couldn't stop it from pulling right. The north-bound 18 wheeler swiped the parked 18 wheeler inflicting heavy damage on both rigs. The north-bound rig bounced off the parked rig and slid to a stop blocking both north-bound lanes of 59. Fortunately, neither driver was injured. Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the scene along with Corrigan Police Department and Trooper Allen Stanton with the Texas Highway Patrol. All north-bound traffic was partially blocked and routed to the shoulder. No citations have been issued and the accident remains under investigation. Riley Wrecker Service out of Corrigan was summoned to clean up the mess.
This 18 wheeler was parked on the shoulder of the north-bound side of US-59 when it was side swiped by another 18 wheeler that was north-bound.
Mechanical Failure: The driver of this18 wheeler says that he couldn't control his rig and bounced off the parked rig, then slid to a stop blocking both north-bound lanes.
Trooper Allen Stanton is the investigating officer. Stanton is speaking with the driver of the parked 18 wheeler.
The north-bound 18 wheeler slid to a halt blocking both lanes of the north-bound side. Traffic was rerouted to the shoulder.
