Loaded Dump Truck Crashes Into Lake Livingston, ONALASKA, July 1, 2024 - At approximately 4 pm on July 1, 2024, a dump truck loaded with asphalt, was east-bound on US-190 West (Onalaska Big Bridge). The truck's front driver's side tire blew causing the driver, Romulo Jesus Grandos Peña, 70, of Houston, to lose control. Peña's vehicle swerved left, crashed through the guardrail, continued down the embankment, and into Lake Livingston. Peña's vehicle impacted logs in the lake causing his truck to come to a sudden stop, ejecting him from his dump truck and onto the logs. Allegiance Ambulance Service was dispatched to the scene along with the Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department, Officers with Onalaska Police Department, a Game Warden, and Trooper Sean Barnes with The Texas Highway Patrol. Peña was transported by ambulance to Conroe. Traffic on the Big Bridge was partially blocked during investigation and cleanup. Peña is facing a citation for no seatbelt. A heavy-duty wrecker from Clifton Chevrolet out of Corrigan was summoned to clean up the mess.
